Default 2002 Ford Expedition Gear Shift and Electrical Problem

It is strange our vehicle will start but will not go into gear. The steering wheel is not locked and moves freely but the gear shift will not move from park.We also noticed that the windsheild wipers are not working nor are the power windows. If you have any suggestions on what this could be we would love the help.

word any replies, I have the same problem with the shift lock mechanism.
The problem that you described is either your ignition switch is shorted
or your brake light switch is shorted.

If either of the 2 items is the failing component then replacement is not
a major task. If not then the GEM General Electric Module a Multi-Function
accessory controller is the most likely component. This module controls
a bulk of the accessories in the Expo Windows, shift lock, wipers, courtesy
lights, transmission mode 2-4 Hi-LO switch, and sunroof.

The GEM module is behind the front dash drivers side next to the fuse panel
double check your location. If replacement of this module is required the fuse
box has to be removed to get to the GEM unit, post replacement your vehicle
will need the ECU re-flashed.

Now their might be a possible dealership "Ford Re-Call" Cruise Control switch
I believe my electrical failure with GEM was caused by the Cruise Control
circuitry shorting . When you open the hood and browse in the cruise control device
location you can smell burnt plastic which traveles directly to the firewall
directly towards the GEM unit. I just have to have the dealership aggree?
