Dancing Speedometer needle
I have a 2002 Expedition XLT - 5.4L - AWD-4x4 - 78,000 miles
with key on without starting the engine the speedometer dances all over and the odometer gains - it takes several attempts to be able to start the motor as needle is near 100 - i go through each gear and then needle eventually settles at "0" - when engine is running dancing needle is intermittent - but it still dances at times
shifting from park to reverse there is a big jerk sometimes - not all of the times - shifting from park to drive there is sometimes a jerk and then all is well
when slowing down the speedo increases while the car is slowing down - the engine surges and then needle buries at 100mph and then engine dies
sometimes the OD light comes on - sometimes the 4x4 light comes on - both go off when i tune off car and restart - then they may coma on again later
yesterday replaced 3 sensors - one at the rear differential and one on top of trans and one at the end of the transfer case near the trans - the mechanic ran diagnostics and told me it was sensors - well they did not help - actually made it worse as car dies more often now
any ideas???????
