Window motor busted a gear and jammed up, I drilled out rivits and removed the motor and regulator however I forgot to wire the regulator so it would not spin and lossen the spring tension, now I am ready to put back together with new motor but don't know how to and how much preload the assist spring should have on it.

I usually replace rivets with short bolts (can cut to size too), lockwashers, nuts and blue threadlocker.

Assist spring. Well you may need a diagram to tell you better. As far as the assist spring goes you could take apart the other door and check reversely by looking how tightly the other one is wrapped.
