Default 2002 Limited Explorer 4 wheel drive prob???

Hi All.

I have a 2002 limited v8.

Recently, my 4 wheel drive will not engage when I press the 4x4 high button. The low will also not engage.

Also, I have noticed that it seems only the back 2 wheels are moving by themselves..the front wheels are not engaging..making the "all-wheel-drive".

When I press the 4x4 high button..the LED on the dash will not come on.

I am really hoping one of you will say "try checking the fuses".......

How serious is this??? Costwise, etc....

Tnx guys!!!

I have a 2002 Explorer 4.0 engine and I have the same problem. Just found it is the 4X4 Module. Dealer had to fix it. Not cheap!

I had mine do basically the same thing, 1500 miles away on a road trip a few days ago, only mine got stuck in 4 low, which adds gear and screws up the speedo and everything else. I took mine to the dealership and they told me it was the module and was going to cost a ton, then I took it to a transmission shop, the manually set the diff in 4 auto and disconnected the motor, stays in 4 auto now and will work until I get the time to buy the new motor and throw it in. Always get a second opinion, most ford dealers don't know much of anything about the actual trans and diffs on their own vehicles.
