Need help PLZ..my wifes 2003 explorer all of a sudden, all 4 windows stopped working. Then a few hours later the radio wouldnt turn on..The clock on the radio works but thats all..I checked all fuses, relays and circuit breakers and all checked ok..is there a module or something that went out..??? Possibly the accessory delay relay..

 

That was one of the relays i had checked.. There is a defrost relay next to it so I swaped the two..The defrost works but still no windows.?? The relay is ok..all fuses are ok also..

 

Remove the delay relay.. Use a jumper wire and bridge the 30 and 87 relay connections taking the instrument cluster out of the operational loop.. The cluster controls the ground leg of the relay coil opening/closing the delay relay contacts.. Aslo check for 12v at the jumper when connrected.. This will put 12V straight into the master window switch.. Windows come on line?

Ok, windows and radio are working. Looks like the relay is not being energized..I manually rechecked relay and it works fine. What energizes the relay?? ECU?? Whats next?? Thanks Jess

 

I re-read what you wrote..so is it the instrument cluster that controls the relay?? We had that replaced once before under factory warranty because the gas guage wasnt working at around 32K miles..It now has 51K miles..what do you think???

 

Just talking to my wife. We had the cluster replaced under factory warranty once then it went out a second time and replaced under parts warranty..whats up with this part??

 

The instrument cluster micro processor controls the grounding/control legof the delay relay..

 

so can this micro proccessor be replaced alone or does it come complete as one unit in the Instrument cluster??

 

Processor is integrated to the cluster...

Clusters are vehicle configured on replacement.....

Not a real high failure rate, but certainly Ford should get behind you on this last repair since it's been replaced a few times already.. When was the last unit installed? I'd take all your docs and get the Service Manager/Parts Manager involved and see we they can do or offer you.. If it's your servicing dealer, I'd be surprised if they didn't offer you some help...
