The OD light comes on when there is a problem with the trans. It doesn't have to be a serious problem, but is still a problem.
It resets when you turn the ign off. Apparently the trans problem is intermittent and only comes on when certain conditions are present. You might be able to get the codes in the computer read at a place like Autozone for no charge . If you decide to try that we may be able to offer some suggestions that might help. Get the code numbers if you decide to do it.

Default FORD Explorer 2005 , O/D flashing

hi every body
I have the same problem as alex mentioned and I need your help to find the problem.
I have replace my transmission with a repaired one and after that, O/D off light flashing time to time and sometimes gears were slipping during driving.
I have returned the car for troubleshooting and they told me by replacing the sensor the problem is solved.
after 300 km driving, again O/D off start to flashing again.

any one has experience to help me???

I have the same problem. My transmission starting winding real high in first gear and would not change until RPM got real high and the changed. Upon changing, the "Check Transmission" light came up in the message control panel and the O/D off came on and started blinking. So is the consensus that I need to bring it in to a shop or is this something that I can possibly take care of on my own?

I have a 2005 Ford Explorer with the RSC traction control system, not sure if that would make a difference

one thing you all might try is check the condition of the fluid and change it if needed. It sure won't hurt it any
