2006 Explorer 13.2 mpg
Hi Everyone-
So I broke down last week and finally got an Explorer 4x4 XLT 4.0L with about 19K miles (One of their "Certified Pre-Owned" promos).
I know the motor was rated about 15 mpg in town and about 20 mpg on the highway, but just filled it up today and only averaging 13.2 (21.7 gallons to 286 miles). My Dad's Ram 2500 with the 5.7 L Hemi is getting better mileage
Is there any littleadjustments that I can do to at least bring it back into range? According to the dealer sheet, they did a full tune-up (replaced the cables, plugs, filters, fluids, etc).

RE: 2006 Explorer 13.2 mpg
Hello
ive found personally that the milage is always overrated. put the first thing i did with my explorer was check the plugs. to make sure they really are new and are gapd properly. two things i did were take off my sidesteps/running boards (which took about 100pounds of weight off) and i took off the roof rack. try not driving it in 4x4 mode unless absolutly necessary, andtry driving like an old lady. accelerate and brake slowly and try not speeding, even though its hard.also dont run the a/ccrazy or open the windows if not necessary.get back to me with how my suggestion worked if you can plz. good luck
