Default 98 explorer limited lost key

Hi,I am the second owner of a 98 explorer limited 5.0 awd. When I bought it there was only 1 key & remote. The previous owner installedan after market alarm with a remote starter.I got another remote and reprogrammed the alarm and key less entry. The problem is my wife lost the key before I could get spares made,I know should have done that first.Do I haveto replace the ignition cylinder or can a key be made from the cylinder.Thank you and have a nice day.

Ford can cut keys off of the vehicle VIN from 'as built' data.. Usually 99 and forward,, but 'some' 98 data shows up.. I'd look there first.. Chances are it's too old, but if you want to email me your VIN I'll look to see if your M/Y shows a key code for a replacement...

Running the VIN that you supplied,, (the 5th VIN position S/B a 'U' (Ford/truck/SUV) instead of 'V' as noted) shows the code to be able to cut a key off of the vehicles VIN per Ford.. It also shows it to be a 'Less' PATS system.. If it doesn't have PATS as 'as built' shows it to be, and the 5th position is a 'U' then your local dealer should be able to cut a key....
