Turn the heat or a/c on so it sucks air from out side turn the blower on high than spray febreeze or a air freshner that kills smoke smell into the vent intakes on the outside by the wipers that will help. There is no filters that im aware of.

There is no cabin filter on your explorer. What you might try ; remove the blower motor assy check the squirrel cage blower and clean it if necessary.

Then see if you can vacuum any residue from the passage. Many times leaves and junk accumulate in that passage and wind up sticking on the evaporator coils. You can place some rags/wipers under the outlet in the vehicle and carefully clean/wash some of it out the evaporator drain. Go slow, and it should help get the junk out. hanky
