Default Cant find a replacement cam sensor!

I bought a 1997 Ford Explorer (Standard) V6 4.0 XLT a couple years back and I LOVE IT. Recently had some problems so my "Qualified Mechanic" step father looked at it and said my cam sensor was hanging by a thread. So... He pulled it out (I almost died and he was nearly killed!) I cant find a replacement anywhere. I was told my engine was a 1998 engine but the cam sensors for that year don't fit.... At all. Ive tried a few other years and they still don't work.... (I dont even have a number on my engine! So its even harder for me ): )
Can anybody tell me where can I find it?! I really need this part... My "Qualified Mechanic" step father doesn't even know where to get it (Lord knows how he's a mechanic!) all he said was its at a 90 degree angle. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

A suggestion,
with your vehicle's vin# call any Ford dealer parts dept and inquire as to availability, price and part number. You should be able to get some info. I can't recognize that part in your picture.
