Default Faulty timing chain tensioners

Any info on recall to repair faulty timing chain tensioners in Single Overhead Cam model Explorer's, I've been told the engine needs to come out to repair it? Is this a common problem and is it possible to do the yourself?

There are 2 of these, the front one is on the drivers side in the front and the rear is on the passengers side in the back. I changed mine myself and I only did the front. I bought the part at Ford for around $50.00. Fixed the problem of sounding like a model T........
