Default Key Fobs

I just purchased a 2002 Explorer XLT 4x4, 4door with the 4.0L. It only came with one key and no key fobs. The two key fobs I purchased on ebay for $20 just came in the mail yesterday along with programming instructions. I was able to successfully get it into program mode, and program one of the fobs on the first try. Here's what I did just so that there aren't any questions. I turned the ignition on and off 8 times in 10 seconds and left it in the ON position. I did hear the locks lock and unlock to indicate that it was in program mode. About 3 seconds later I pushed a button on the first fob and the doors locked and unlocked again. Three seconds later I pushed a button on the second one and nothing happened. I then turned off the ignition and the first fob was able to unlock and lock the doors, but the second was not functional. I then decided to do it all over again to try to get them both to work, but in all my following attempts I couldn't get a response from either fob after putting the explorer into program mode. I know it can only accept up to 4 fobs, but that should be reset every time. Any Ideas?

well i dont have an answer for your question, but i have a few of my own for you. What is the best place to buy those from and can they be programmed for any Explorer or do you have to have some special upgrade installed for them to work? I really want some for myself, but i may just buy one.

in order to program a key you must have TWO working keys..if you dont ,you have to go to ford and have them program the keys..there is no way around this one..so always have at least TWO working keys..you can get the keys and clickers on ebay..I have purchased them and they work..be very careful when ordering to get the right key.. good luck

When in program mode you have to press the buttons on both fobs at the same to and program both at the same time ... and No you dont need two keys to program them
