Default 1978 gas tank pickup line removal?

Got a 78 F150 that was running pretty good and then just stalled out due to running the tank real low and clogging the pickup line filter, i'm pretty sure. I took the fuel line off at the gas tank outlet and fed it into a portable gas can. It ran even better than before. My question here is how do you take out the internal gas tank pick up line? I looked under at the tank and there was the fuel line, gas level sensor within a disc and some tabs. How do you take this off, i don't want to mess it up. Something with the tabs? Thanks....!

Take some compressed air if you have it available and blow the area around/under the locking ring clean of dirt/debris so it doesn't drop into the tank when the module is removed.. If rusted ect. a light spray with some lube may help getting it to move..

Take a decent size punch ect and moderatly 'tap' each tang on the locking ring to rotate it 'evenly' until it rotates clear of the dogs that hold it down. It will only turn one way. The key is,, tap, rotate, tap, repeat, so not to bend or distort the tabs or the lock ring itself. Make sure on the install, that the locking ring 'centers'.. There's usually no problems, but if the locking ring gets distorted/bent it may want to not catch on one of the locating dogs that are on the tank flange..
