i usually just use water in a bucket, with a long hose on the outlet returning to the same bucket. as long as only the bottom part of the pump is under water, and the wires are safely away from the water, it'll be fine. i found another forum talking about airtex pumps, and how badly they suck, and how many people said they may last only 10K miles, and sometimes they are bad out of the box. i work at advance auto, and can confirm this. we get airtex pumps back all the time. they are a really crappy pump. i'll be sure to replace it with a delphi pump, if this one tests bad. even tho it sat for years, it only has about an hour's run time on it

 

Many times when a pump is hastily condemned the ground and voltage supplies are never checked . A good tech will check these connections and verify that the pump is getting the proper stuff with which to work. While you have the tank down , this is the time to make sure the ground connections and the voltage supply connections aren't borderline. Unfortunately many guys changing pumps don't check these things or even know how to do it. Don't get caught in this trap. Just because a pump runs doesn't mean it is running at full potential. That's what "separates the men from the boys".

 

gotcha. i'll be sure to check for the proper grounds and voltage, and make some modifications if nessecary. i'm all too familar with grounding issues. on my 72 bug, 90% of the time when something goes wrong, or stops working, its the grounds, lol.

 

didn't get a whole lot done today. got a new fuel filter installed, and new clips all around, since i destroyed the old ones removing them, because they had gotten really brittle. and BTW, anyone who still has origional clips on their ford, PLEASE REPLACE THEM!!!! can't be safe having such brittle clips on the lines. takes all of 2 seconds to pop off and in some new ones.

Also got the gas drained out of the rear tank. even tho i put 5 gallons of fresh premium, it looked like orange kool-aid, and smelled terrible. filled one 5 gallon tank by using my siphon pump. then on the second can, i forgot about it when it was draining, and when i came back the tank was empty, and it overfilled the second 5 gallon gas can, and gas soaked about a 6 foot circle of my yard, lol. good thing i don't smoke

 

If for no other reason, take a small sample somewhere safe and see if it will burn, you could get a surprise.

 

now remember half of it is fresh premium. I actually tried some in an old piece of crap push mower i have lying around that i got for free, that just refuses to die. one of the wheels broke off, it was once ran with out oil till it locked up. back fires like crazy, and burns a wee bit of oil. anyhoo, sure enough, it started up, and ran, lol. I'm guessing the dilution of premium was enough to make the gas runable. so now i got about 10 gallons of lawnmower gas. And the small 1/2 quart tank (or whatever size those small 3.5hp briggs motors have) sure does alast a long time, lol.

i won't dare try it in the rider tho, lol.

anyhoo, had to work late today. hopefully i'll be able to get the tank down and see whats going on.
