1996 F-150 Won't Restart
1996 F-150 w/ 5.0L and dual fuel tanks. The truck starts normally and will restart if run for a short period of time, however, when it is driven for any period over around 10-15 minutes, it and shut off, it won't restart. Acts as if it is flooded except it has EFI. Once it sits for 20-30 minutes it fires up normally. Someone told me it could be a fuel pressure regulator. Where is it and how hard is it to replace? Thanks!

RE: 1996 F-150 Won't Restart
It starts and runs for as long as you'd like until you turn it off. THEN it won't resart so I assume it has spark or it wouldn't have started in the first place. It obviously has fuel or it wouldn't have started in the first place. What in the spark/fuel categories would keep it from restarting for only 30 minutes?? Once it rests for a while it always restarts. Thanks!

RE: 1996 F-150 Won't Restart
If it were an early 90's I would suspect ignition module on the distributor - but '96 and up was the OBD junk huh? Anyhow - check fuses as a precaution and the pressure regulator is usually on the fuel rail on the engine intake. Depressurize the fuel rail before ever tinkering there - but I've never seen one go bad. Check any vacuum lines and the computerized regulators/sensors that tell the pump how much fuel to allow. But I'd check that you're getting fire at thespark plugs first (when it's in the process of screwing up). Get out your mechanics hot gloves.
