Default 2010 F150 Transmission Fluid Change

My buddy owns a 2010 F150. He currently has over 130k miles on it and has a question. He has heard that if you do not regularly change the transmission oil to not do it. He states that he has spoken to a few mechanics that have said not to change the oil if you have never changed it. That at this point, if he does decide to change it, that there could be some gears slipping. I personally have never heard of this. Is there any truth to this? I recommend he flushes the transmission, changes the filter and obviously put new fluids in it. Should he or shouldnt he change the fluids?

Id do a trans flush on it without any qualms, the rule my dealer uses is we will not do it the first time if its over 150k miles. We do have one customer who tows a lot but comes in ever 50-60k miles for a flush, has over 300k miles with no trans issues.
If your worried about it you can just drop the pan, replace the filter and refill, that will change out about 1/3 - 1/2 of the total fluid.

If changing the transmission fluid causes an issue, that transmission was already on its last legs anyway.I would not flush and would upgrade the pan with a drain plug. Do one pan drop and change the filter. Run the truck a few weeks and drain out by pulling the drain plug and refill. that will all that is needed. Use the recommended fluid, no max life or a "one works with all fluid".

I would definitely put this fluid in:

less issues in my vehicles over the past 2 decades! also the engine oil in a previous vehicle would burn oil and it helped cut down the oil burning tremendously. There were no leaks in the vehicle.
hope this helps.

I would never flush just drain the pan and replace the filter. The only time I have ever had a tranny go bad was about 10000 miles after a flush and was told to never flush the fluid just replace the filter.
