Default 2K6 F-150 MOTOR OIL QUESTIONS

i just bought a 200 super crew f-150, it has about 25k miles on it, according to the last oil change stamp, it is time for the next oil change. now the manual call for 5w-20 i believe, now i know with temperature changes motors call for a different oil for higher temperatures, but i dont know much about the process of chossing oil. in my area as of right now daily it is anywhere from 70 degrees morning to a high of at least 100 or more. ive been thknin about using 10w-40 but what would anyone here suggest, brand wise and viscosity wise. im also new to this site and am just getting around to using the site. thanks for all the help.

Try this website to learn more about it:

http://www.blackstone-labs.com/oil_viscosity.html

Also, many user manuals will tell you what oils to use at different temperatures. Check there, too.

Use only 5w20 in that engine. They have very close tolerances internally and need the proper oil for proper lubrication.

OH AND THE ENGINE SIZE IS A 4.6 V8 TRITON. SO MULLET MAN, YOU SAY I CAN ONLY USE 5W-20? BUT DUE TO THE HIGH TEMPS IN MY AREA WOULDNT I NEED AN OIL THAT TOLERATES A HIGHER TEMP, LIKE 10W-30? thanks for the responses and also my truck is a 2006. thanks.

5W20 Like the Owner's Manual suggests.

Maybe after 100,000 miles, you can go thicker.

ok, thanks for the responses. now on the little sticker it says the last oil they used was a 10w-30 oil. will it hurt it to go back to 5w-20? what harm can come by using 10-30 in my engine when the manual suggests 5-20? thanks again for the responses.

Engine damage may not occur right away (or ever for that matter), it's just wise to use what the Manufacturer suggests.

It will not hurt to go back to 5W20.

ok well last night i bought a motorcraft oil filter and 5w-20 Motorcraft oil. also in about a month i will be moving to a different state, and it is about a 400 mile drive. i will be towing a u-haul trailer loaded with about 2k lbs of stuff maybe not even that. what class hitch does my f-150 need. it is a supercrew 4.6 v8. because of the heavy loading that causes the engine to work harder, will i need a thicker oil for then, or still stick with 5w-20. thanks for teh responses, as yall can see i am a newb to this stuff, i just bought this truck about 2 weeks ago and my last truck was a 200 expedition. thanks for the help.

Same oil for towing. You will need a "Class III" hitch for towing since it is the most popular size for all towing needs.
