4.2L V6 Spark knock at upper RMP
I am running a 2007 F150 with the V6 and am experiencing engine "ping" (spark knock) at freeway speeds when slight acceleration takes place. I have triednumerous brands of gas andseveral octanesof each, butwith no change. My local Ford dealer service dept. has changed the settings on this engine three times, but all to no avail. Some other forums I've checked seem to indicate that the 4.2L is just a "pinger" and there's little that can be done. I'm concerned about the long-term effect of this issue though. I'm getting very reasonable mileage (18-19 mpg) and have typical power for this size engine. Anyone having similar issues or know of a way to settle this down? Thanks! mbtnnr

RE: 4.2L V6 Spark knock at upper RMP
Apparently it's an inherent issue with the 4.2, all though I don't have this problem with the 4.2 in my Freestar. This issue has been discussed in the Freestar forum. Take a PEEK-SEE and you might get some ideas on what to look for.

4.2L V6 Spark knock
I have a v6 F150 that spark knocks at freeway speeds as well.
The dealer has done all they can to correct the problem to no avail.
I contacted ford directly and they said they were aware of the problem and are working on it however it has been 6 months and I still have heard nothing.
I currently am using EXXON Premium fuel and that stops the knock in my truck
