Cool 79 ford f150 trying to get more top end

I have a 79 f150 that has a 460 with a c6 transmission. It has alot of low end torque that I don't need. Was wondering if there was a transmission I could put in to get more top speed. Or would it be easier to put new gears in the rear end. I figure get more top end and less torque would help on gas and get more speed. What would be easier better or cheaper. And if I have to really gear the back axle do I have to do the front also. Thanks for any help.

You didn't say whether it's a 4X4 , but if it is, yes both differentials would have to be changed. Have you considered a larger circumference tire that will have enough room to work?

Default 79 Ford

Yes it is 4x4 and I have 35 inch tires. Its just I take every weekend hunting and its about an hour drive and when I'm running 65-70 MPH its screaming ans the Tom's are high. Like it needs another gear or overdrive. I don't need all that torque. I don't pull nothing with it at all. Just like to make it a little more practical for what I need. If putting in new gears is my best option, what is the best gear ratio to go with. Thank you in advance for any help.

change ur exhaust to high flow as in, get like true duals 2.5 inch or 3 inch piping high flow muffler and cat. cold air intake, aftermarket headers-shorties for top end, intake manifold for about 3000-7000 rpm range, if you change your rear end gears get smaller ones, all this will dramatically screw ur low end but add high end
