Default 93 f150 bleeding badly

Hello guys I am new here, I have discovered this site while desperately seeking an idea of what its gonna cost to fix my truck.

I have a 1993 f150 with the 302 engine, 4x4 and 108,000 mi

Its dropping about a quart every 100 miles and there is a clear leak from the back of the engine... (course its everywhere now so you can be sure) but I think it is the crank seal...

How many million dollars is this gonna cost me.

If you can do it yourself, I'd say the seal is $50ish.

If a shop does it, I'm guessing about $450ish.

Can you ID where the oil is coming from? I had a leak, it was from the bottom of the oil pan and ran from under the cross member to the back of the pan. It was on a 95 f-150 302 with about the same mileage as yours when it began.

Is it coming from the rear main seal? if so than it shouldnt be that bad really, and you could do it yourself for around $50-60, a jack, new oil, and some patience.

Thank you guys for your reply.
As it turns out the first mechanic sent me too a trans shop... who did a good look around on a creeper and he says its an oil pan gasket.

Now I am a handy guy, I am a carpenter and growing up my old man owned an auto parts store so I am not a total idiot, only partial. But I am older now and I dont have a flat drive or garage too work in.
So in my mind this is pretty simple, drain the oil, drop the pan replace the gasket put the pan on done in an hour or two.

But its not that simple is it.
I went to two local indi shops, both wanted to sell me oil pans, one came back at just over 900.00 with a pan... the other it seems is still running for the hills.

I contacted a pep boys which said 580 and suggested they do a 70 dollar engine flush as well.

and I called two ford dealerships one came back at 660. and one at 760 no mention of oil pans at all.

SO.... what to do what to do...book seems to make this a 6 hour job. An oil pan... geez.

So thinking I could get the work done the most quickly if they worked weekends and the price was good so I went to the boys....right away I could tell they had no idea this was not a simple dozen bolts and a gasket deal and all their speed of service advantage went out the window.
Given they would not be fast and the fact that they had no idea of the job I decided to go with a dealer...because I need this truck to run and well and on time...

so I guess what I am asking is why is it so hard, and do you have any ideas at all... advice... its my first ford and my first ford repair... I want to be a ford guy so... help me out please.
