96 w/inline 6 with funny starting procedure
This is on a 96 F-150 with the inline 6 motor, and all power options. I have been dealing with this for over a year. Don't drive it much anyway. just about every time I go to start it, it will turn over fine. I have to leave the ignition turned to the ON postion, go out and unscrew the bolt that holds the connector to the ECU, can hear parts cutting off or clicking, screw the bolt back in, hear parts clicking again. Go back in and the truck starts up. Most of the time it stays running, but if it cuts off, I have to do that same thing again to get it to start. Once it runs, it usually will go a few miles, and whule going down the road it cuts off, will not start back up till I do the ECU connector off/on procedure. It will usually do it 3 times with in about 10 miles of traveling. Once it gets started up after the 3rd turn off it will runn and start just fine the rest of the DAY. Not sure what it is, I have swapped ECU's, change the ignition control moduel, replaced the coil, swaped the relays in the fuse/relay panel under the hood, also, pulled teh relay panel up and checked for any bad/loose wires under there, that stuff does nothing. That starting procedure is the only thing that will get it to run. Anyone have any ideas, or heard of this happening before. TIA for any insight.

RE: 96 w/inline 6 with funny starting procedure
Update, It was the pick up in the distributor, reset the system when I disconnected the ECU plug. Runs great now. So, if ever in a spot where the truck cuts off or will not start, try disconnecting the ECU plug, while the key is in the on position, and it may start up, and if it does, replace the pick up. The model I have the whole distributor had to be taken apart, I think some other models can be done from the top.
