Default changing out the block heater with a freeze plug

my block heater once fell out and lost my coolent , i dont trust this after time ...... guess it comes out easy but the new freeze plug should just tap in easy ? 1998 5.4 motor

The thing about freeze plugs are that they rust just about same as any thing else getting them in streight is the key to a good seal. but once their in they're next to impossible to get out

You need to make sure to make the edges of the hole as clean as possible and we used to use a non hardening sealer like permatex and just make sure you push in the center of the plug just enough to make it expand in the hole.

If you have a recessed cup type plug you can use a wooden piece of tough dowel to insert it.
