Default could it be the maf?

My truck will stall after about 4 seconds and makes a sound like air is being released. A mechanic friend said it was idleing too low and put two nuts to increase the idle, it no longer stalls but still does not seem right. There is no check engine light and the shop told me it was the MAF. I took it to autozone and they said it was the idle sensor I replaced that it did not help, i also replaced the fuel filter/pump still stalls if I take the nuts away.

You can sometimes clean the MAF and get good results. Do a little research on cleaning them and give it a shot; if it helps out then you know you are going in the right direction.

Idle control valves rarely ever go bad, they usually just need to be cleaned. My 90 f150 has idled high for a bit right at start up then drops rpm after a few seconds. My wifes escape will idle alot higher as hers sticks worse. usually if the MAF sensor is bad the vehicle won't nessicarily die, it will usually idle more iradiclly. But it is a start however, i would have an OBD scan done and maybe it will throw a code. Sounds like an air/ fuel issue for sure. sorry for inncorrect spelling long day at work.

I have replaced my share of IAC motors. One way of checking it is to hold your foot on the gas pedal, so that you just slightly open the throttle plate and start the motor. If it idles (possibly a bit high) and then let your foot off the gas. If it dies, a good bet it is the IAC.
