Default Dies when idle and backing up????

I have a 1985 F150. It has died 2 times while backing up. While driving it feels like it slipped into neutral. Also when I am sitting idle at a stop like it dies. Does anyone have any suggestions about what it might be?

I'm having a similar problem with my '85 F150. It has a 302 with a 2BBL carb. Does good when you first drive it but when you get back in and drive it wants to cut off when you slow or stop. I believe it's in the carb, but the timing could be it too. Gas mileage seems to be a little low too, making me think the carbs the problem.

On hot restart, check the tailpipe real close. If the power valve is leaking, you will get a puff of black smoke. Also it will run rough at slower speeds. If it runs rough at times, then check your egr valve, could have carbon sticking it open just slightly and that will also cause it to stall at stops. Just a couple of ideas. [sm=angrymail.gif]
