Thank you for all of your help so far Hanky. So would not having that there affect my fuel mileage at all? As i understand it from lots of other things i read that unit supplies fresh air into the exhaust to be sent back through so that any fuel that was not burnt the first time can then be used completely.

As far as fuel mileage, if the pressure regulator is sucking addl fuel into the intake your mileage is terrible, the engine runs lousy and the plugs will be loaded with carbon from running rich and you are probably getting some black smoke from the exhaust.
The hose from the air pump is for emission control and usually has very little effect on your mileage. You are starting to get the picture, hang in there.
Do you know where the pressure regulator is located and what it looks like ?

Yes I found it under the intake manifold. I had one hell of a time getting the vacuum line off of it. I am getting around 10-12 MPG. From what i have seen it should be 15-17 MPG. Right?

I can't tell you what mileage you should be getting, but it should be much better than 10-12. Did you notice if there was any liquid gas in that vacuum line? Can't think of any other way for gasoline to get into the vacuum lines at this time other than the fuel press regulator.
