Loud Whistling Noise of my 2006 F150
I have a 2006 F150 with the 5.4L engine. It is an XLT if that makes a difference. I live in Minnesota and when the temperature drops below freezing I get this very annoying Loud whistling noise from the engine compartment. Not really much seems to affect or change it. It comes and goes. The local dealership has checked it out and says it is a "wind noise" and that something has wind going across, however, they do not have an answer as to what it is or how to correct the problem. They did say that it seems to be related to 2006-2007 F150's. I had a 2005 same truck without this problem. I have to live with this noise until it warms up again (won't be til april now), so I was hoping that someone could help me troubleshoot this or direct me to help. Thank you!

RE: Loud Whistling Noise of my 2006 F150
I have a 2004 F150 (4.6L) in Canada. For 3 years now I have had to suffer through "whistling" in cold weather. It turns out that Ford knows about the problem (cold, dense air passing over the throttle plate) and they deem this a "characteristic" of the engine. So much for their advertising: "built for life in Canada". I did a google search on "F150 whisltle noise" and there seems to be a lot of people who live in colder climates that are having the same issue (and not just with F150s).
Based on my google search, I'll have to say that since Ford is burying their head in the sand on this issue, I'll no longer consider a Ford product in future purchases.

the first thing that i would do is take the belt off and spin all the pullys to try and locate the noise. you could even start it to see if it makesthye noisewith no belt turning all the other pullys. Make sure you do put the belt back on be for you drive it.

RE: Loud Whistling Noise of my 2006 F150
I guess I wasn't clear in my earlier post: Ford engineers have determined that it is "cold, dense air passing over the throttle plate" that is causing the problem. The dealer has done the Ford suggested troubleshooting, and this is the end result.
My biggest beef (other than the noise) is that Ford won't pay the dealer to open up the intake area and have a look-see. Could be something simple but neither will budge on opening it up. So now you'll ask: why don't I do it myself? I took an extended warranty (to 150,000) and any tampering could void it. With my past luck on this truck (new rear diff, new torque converter, new front hubs, new right rear quarter panel) all covered by the warranty, I don't want to do anything that might void the warranty...
