Have 2002 Mustang, same problem. Hardest thing to find is straight answers. Some on-line helpful hints are are flat out lies and what appears to be misleading information.
The same basics apply. Have spark and gas, assuming timing is on, engine should start.
If no start, check Schrader valve for fuel pressure on fuel rails connecting to injectors. Looks like a tire valve. Place absorbent rag or paper towel at Schrader valve. Depress valve like letting air out of tire, gas should shoot out at about 40 psi. No gas, no fuel pump action. That can be for several reasons. Turn ignition key to run, fuel pump should run for 1-2 seconds the click to stop. Check fuses in engine area fuse box. Check Fuel Pump Driver Module supplies variable voltage to fuel pump. Check fuel pump. All are expensive items. Ford has managed to make a simple fuel delivery system very complicated. If you have fault codes, good. Last, take it to Ford dealer for repair.

Check collision switch usually in trunk, next to left tail light. If popped, depress/reset red plunger button.
