Default Oil around spark plugs

I have a question about my 2003 f-150, concerning oil around the spark plugs when I went to change out my spark plugs and wires. When I removed two of the spark plugs on the passenger side I found a little oil around two of the sparks and was wondering if this is a major concern and what I should do to fix. Right now my truck is running rough. It runs but the check engine litght is on. Any help with this problem would be a great help. ThxSean.

Default RE: Oil around spark plugs

I am assuming you have the v6 model. From what you are describing it sounds like the valve covers may be leaking. I would suggest inspecting you valve cover gaskets, see if there is oil running down the side of the head toward the plug wires. you may be able to just tighten up the bolts a little to stop the leak. As far as you running issue you may have more than just a plug and wire issue. If you have the aluminum intake check the pcv tube comming off the right side valve cover running back to the vacume Y on the right rear of the upper plenum. The 4.2L has a bad problem with wearing a hole in the tubbing at the 90deg elbo. Most likely you would have a check engine light with that issue. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions i would be glad to help out.
