What you might consider,
Check with a Certified locksmith or two and get some idea of what they charge to code 2 new keys for you.You can still drive there.
If you have 2 working keys, you can code up to 8 yourself. It sounds like a lot of trouble, but nothing compared to being stuck somewhere with a non working remote.
Then you could invite a towing charge PLUS having the keys coded.
Wouldn't it be great to just put the key in turn it and the engine starts ? Not knowing your circumstances, it might be well worth your while.
