the regulator your looking for is on the fuel rail right before it goes back to tank should be on the drivers side of the engine towards the back of the engine where the fuel lines are connected to it

thanks, I feel like I gave up. I put the tank back in hooked it all up and it ran.
I'm still a little afraid to drive it because I never really figured out what the problem is.
Guess I'll have to wait for it to stop again to see if it is spark or fuel.

Would either the fuel pressure regulator or something with the distributor make the engine just stop running and then a while later let it run like nothing ever happened?
At present I have a check engine light so I'm looking for something to read what it says.
When I find out or it dies again I'll post what I find.

Thanks again I really appreciate your help. I'm going to identify that regulator now so when it stops next time I can start there with the fuel search.

Cheers, Dave

I think your truck is having the same issue mine had. When you are driving it just cuts out engine turns but won't start. I replaced the icm distributer cap and roder and fuel switch, it ran good for a little bit the did the same thing over again. I brought it to my local mechanic he looked at it laughed and said the magnetic coil in the distributer is shot and when I replace it, it should run. Needless to say he was right. Hope this helps

I ended up getting rid of the truck was costing too much to fix and keep making payments on so I let the finance company have it back. I haven't had that truck in almost a year.
