Default V6 oil pan gasket--what an expierence

My Dads 2002 F150 V6 Auto, 137850 miles. suddenly began leaking, at a rate of 2 to 2.5 quarts in 3 days. The only place oil was visible was bottom of bell housing. Took to 2 mechanics both said it needed a rear main seal. Took back, replaced seal, picked up truck, cost $350.00. He drove it the rest of day and next morning--SAME PUDDLE UNDER TRUCK. Took back said it was oil pan gasket.. Make a long story short, cheapest was $800.00, because everyone said had to lift engine up 2 inches to do this..so I tackled this job for him...what an expiernce that has been. Took everything lose that I had to and the motor will not raise up enough to pull that pan from under that truck. The deep pan will not clear the tranny bell housing.Even removed plastic intake. The rear of motor and tranny hits the cab. Could only raise it 1 to 1.5 inches. So I scraped all the gook off of top of pan and bottom of motor , pan would come down enogh to do this, especially leanning it side to side slightly, was carefull not to drop old gasket makerin pan but I know some of it got in.. When I got it back on I poured 2 quarts of oil through with plug out and a few particles of dried gasket maker flushed out. Hope I got it all. He drove it a little this PM and so far no leaks, but I quess in the morning will tell..It took me 12 hours to do this, especially taking off the intake because I thought that would allow it to clear and raise up. Why oh why would someone design a vehicle like this..I remember we use to change pan gaskets on our trucks in about 1 hour, not move or raise anything.

Wait until you remove the heads on a 6.0 diesel. You have to remove the cab.
