RE: "00" 250 cruise control quit ??
Check the cruise control deactivation switch/connector out on the master cylinder.. There's an current safetyrecall 05S28 for this issue, as well as a possible shorting/fire concern.. Have your servicing dealer check to see if the recall repair has been performed if you haven't been mailed the recall notification card...

The problem is the sending unit on the master cylinder.
The recall addresses the problem with an inline wire harnes fix but does not change the sending unit.
I put the new improved sending unit on my truck for 35.00 plust a couple minutes time and it all worked again.
On mine, brake fluid began to drip out through the electrical contacts when I unpluged it.
I suspect this unit is the source of all the mystery Ford fires.
Everyone who has not done so, should install the new improved sending unit.

Had an issue with a 95 f150. Cruise just quit working one day. Check the switches in the steering wheel and all was ok. I took the unit out from under the hood, remove the cover to expose the inner mechanical works. A pair ar vice grips and wiggled the inner shaft antil it moved freely and some wd-40, worked prefect until the day i traded it in
