Default 06/6.0 F350 code PO401

Sunday towing 9000lbs truck started surging and blowing black smoke and a very loud hissing noise from under the hood (like when an air hose in the shop breaks). Truck still runs but with less power. Has a code PO401- exhuast gas recirculation flow insuff detected.

Also have a code PO611- fuel injecter cntrl mod perf

where should I start looking? Is this a common thing? truck has 40558 miles on it.

Your blew an egr cooler likely. This is a common problem with the 6.0L.

I cleaned the egr but it wasn't to bad. No change. I can't find any leaks. How would I check for a damaged cooler? I also don't have the ability to check the egr to see if it works.

Default update

I found a hole in the plastic pipe that goes from the front of the engine over to the drivers side and under the air filter to the intercooler. It broke just before it clamped to the intercooler. $130.00 for a new pipe and it runs much better but I still have the code 611 fuel injecter cntrl mod. perf. showing. I clear it and it comes right back. Do these computers fail often?
