RE: 390 2v to 4v
Cool I know you have a fe motor. But this an easy swap for a 429/460. the 429/460 will bolt up to the transmission that is in the truck now. You need the spacer between the engine and transmission for a 429/460. motor mounts you can get aftermarket. ie trans adapt or k&l conversions. Also if you want you can use lincoln 1976/1977 that had a 429. mount rh to lh side and lh to rh. the stud holes in the frame mounts have to be notched 1/4 inch down. You can use the stock radiator. i matched up hoses at napa. The fe motor will not bolt up to the transmission. ie diff bolt pattern. Also no motor mounts aftermarket. I had a 1977 ford truck i did. Best truck i ever had this thing would tow a tank. Sorry i ever sold it. I have also done this for six other customers. If money is not an issue. there are lots of cool parts for 429/460 motors. ie 514,540,572. I have built two 540 motors 650hp 500fpt on pump gas. One was efi. in town mileage ave 11 to 15. towing 8 to 10. this motor now has 25,250 miles on it.

dang sounds like an awesome truck . I gave up on the 78 the guy wouldn't go below 800 for just the body and frame so i started looking aroung and came across a 76 and that will bolt straight in and he only wants 1500 and it runs so im going to go look at it tommorrow the body is a lil rougher but no real rust except in the bed which i'll just weld a new spot and spray . this is a 250 also he says it has heavier axles but when i asked him he had no idea what they were so i assume the are still 40 60 . I paln on still running the 390 thats in it while i rebuild the 390 that i have sitting around . i have the money to put 44's on it and thats what i plan to do but doubt i'll get to it till next year
