99 7.3 stalling
I have had a problem with my '99 7.3 ltr F250 for the last few months now. After I have been driving for a while the engine will die out... it doesn't really matter if I am accelerating or coasting.. it happens at random times. Sometimes I can keep it running by playing with the throttle right when it happens.. but most of the time I have to pull over, then I will usually have to wait a few minutes before I can start it back up, then sometimes I can start it up immediately.
I have changed my fuel and air filters, changed my oil, and put injector cleaner/ additives in the fuel, the only thing that seemed to help was Diesel Kleen and even that didnt help that much.
Any idea what this could be?
Anything will help, Thanks.

F-Series 1999-2003 Cuautitlan Assembly Plant 10/2/1998 - 7/21/2003
Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS. In addition, for a list of vehicles assigned to your dealership,
visit https://web.fsavinlists.dealerconnection.com. This information will be available on December 04,
2007.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor may fail due to circuit
degradation. If the CMP Sensor should fail, the engine may stall. In the event of an engine stall, a
crash could result without warning. A new CMP Sensor with improved reliability is now available.
SERVICE ACTION
Dealers are to inspect the CMP Sensor to verify which design level sensor is installed in the affected
vehicles, and replace all prior level sensors. This service must be performed on affected vehicles at no
charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
Parts to repair this condition are currently not available in sufficient quantities to service all of the
affected vehicles. Therefore, to ensure that an ample supply of parts is available, owners of affected
vehicles will be notified in separate phase mailings over several months. Phase mailing will begin the
week of December 17, 2007; prioritized by age of vehicle. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles
that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.

RE: 99 7.3 stalling
Well I checked my VIN and it is affected so I am going to get it replaced today... I was wondering when this happens does the check engine light come on or not? Because mine is not on, and I dont want to waste my time if I can do this later.

RE: 99 7.3 stalling
Not all the time.. If on a stall, look at the tach and see if you see thetach needle bounce while cranking.. Usually you'll see slight movement..If dead/no movement, no RPM signal is being detected by the PCM.. With out a signal, the injector driver module won't fire the injectors....

RE: 99 7.3 stalling
Okay, I got it replaced this morning and it hasn't stalled yet, Ive only drove it back from the dealer and to get horse feed but it seems to be fixed.
Thanks Haya and everyone else... I would have probably never known about the recall if it weren't for you... since it was new and only issued a month ago... also for those who have had to pay to get this fixed you can get reimbursed for it through the recall.
