Brake line trouble
On top of my major issues, yesterday my rear brake line spring a leak...it is a section that travels over the rear differential....it seems that auto zone and advance auto want you to buy the whole brake line kit but all I need is the section...any suggestions?
thank you

Can I measure the section and bend it myself carefully not linking it...they sell sections and most are 3/16 diameter..is that correct...and will it have the correct fittings? Maybe I should measure them before I go...any help would be greatly appreciated...never done and hard lines before...

If you remove the hard brake line intact and bring it to your napa store they will make you a new one.
Could you make one yourself, yes, but do you know how to bend it correctly and flair the ends out with the correct nuts already installed. I assume different brands of vehicles use different threads on the nuts so you will have to match them.

So I measured the line and it is indeed 3/16, also the length is just short of 40”...I hit the studs with some penetrator and was able to turn them, but I’ll leave them on for
my short trip to the store...yup driving with no brake assist...are there any tricks to bending the steel line...I figure I’m going to take the old one off and try and bend the new one to take the same shape then install the new one...any help with tricks for bending the steel without kinking would really be appreciated although I’m probably over thinking this...

Thank you for responding...the site says it fits my vehicle and it’s only 7 bucks so it’s worth a shot..also the ends seem to be flared already...do these look correct as I haven’t taken off the line yet?

Just got off the phone with NAPA and they said they do not make brake lines even if I brought the one there...they would sell me the straight line in the diameter and length I need just like anyone else...and he said most fittings are universal..so I guess I’m going to try my luck with a 40” 3/16 line and pray that the flares are correct and the threads work...

No idea if that looks right although I notice the label in the picture says 60 inches and you said your is only 40 inches.
No ideas on bending brake lines, they make hand tools for it but I assume a bit of it takes practice to get it right.
The only note I have is I would buy two or three of these $7 parts in case the first/second time goes badly and return the you dont end up needing afterwards.
Depending on price you could always buy the entire brake line and only replace that one section.
Hopefully someone else will respond who has had this or a similar issue that have fixed it without replacing the entire brake line.

Went to auto zone and they couldn’t even find them even though the computer said there was 3 in stock....so I checked advance auto and they have a nickel/copper 40” line 3/16 diameter and US threads...that should be easy to bend...

Thank you for at least responding Scott butler...in fact your are the only person that has responded to any of my posts, and for that I am very grateful...I think I’ll find another forum though where people actually contribute and try to help...so today I was able to fix my brakes by buying a 90/10 copper/nickel 40” brake line...now unfortunately when you buy these lines in different lengths they come with a stud on each end and they are the same size...for my application one stud went into the brake hose for my rear disk brake perfectly, however on the other side where there is some sort of valve that leads most likely to the master cylinder as well as the other rear disk brake, the bolt was bigger...so I cut the new copper line and re-used the existing stud...also I had to make my own flair...after this a quart of DOT 3 and she’s back to normal pressure and the copper line will probably last forever...I am going to try and update all the old steel lines with copper as I go...
probably the best looking part underneath!

Good job, thats a hell of a lot of rust on the body though.
I understand you being annoyed with how few active members are on this forum, there is three or four other members who post a good bit and are very knowledgeable but we generally stay out of each others way to avoid confusion unless incorrect information is being given. In fairness there are many many (I would guess over 20) threads Ive responded to that the original poster never bothered to respond to, sometimes I see they logged back on since my response on their thread and never came back.
If you are looking for a forum more active and better equipped for F250 issues, a model specific forum would be best. For example I drive a toyota tacoma, the toyota nation forum is not nearly as active as the tacoma specific forum Im a member of.
