Default Clutch safety problems

I have a 1995 F350 with the 7.3 diesel and a 5 speed. Recently it's been getting to the point where I almost can't push the clutch pedal far enough in to get the truck started. Does anyone know which wires I need to short to bypass the safety switch until I have the time to get to a dealer and replace it. If possible I would like the switch disabled all together as I never park in gear or on hills anyway... not to mention its pretty much SOP for me to use the clutch when i start any vehicle anyway. Any advice at all is helpful. Thanks in advance.

Tampering with, or removing a 'safety device' is never a good idea.. You may not always be the one driving the truck.. But if in an emergency? or testing purpose's

Weather equipped with an auto trans or manual the harness's are the same there.. The automatic trans has a safety switch 'jumper' connector plugged into the position where the manual trans would normally connect to the safety switch.. You could either replace the safety switch or find a used connector, or buy a new jumper connector to leave off the switch.. Recommend you don't.

Bridging the R/LB to W/PK should crank the truck with the switch still plugged in..

The OEM jumper connections are..

GY/Y to GY/Y
R/LB to W/PK
LG/T to /LB

haya thanx for the quick response disabling is mor of a testing circumstance I just don't have the time to replace the switch right now. So I understand the wiring layout and what to short to bypass but haven't the clue where to locate said switch if you could point me in the right direction for it, I would be very grateful.

The clutch pedal safety switch is mouted on the rod that runs from the clutch lever extending over to the firewall and inserts into the back of the clutch master cylinder.. Look 'up' from the drivers foot well area and follow the brake pedal arm on up,, about between the brake and throttle you'll see the clutch rod with a black cylinder looking switch with the clutch rod running through.. Thats the CPP..

Default Thanx and new woes

Thanks Haya,
So far you have been helpful with every one of my trucks problems. On a good note The switch started working after I jiggled the rod around a bit. Bad news I jiggled the rod around a bit because it literally fell off the little connector that runs back to the pedal. Just got towed to Ford. Anyone got any guesses on price.

So, the 'eye' portion of the clutch rod fell off the pin thats on the short lever? If I remember correctly, the eye had a nylon clip type bushing with 3 legs that would 'snap' into a groove running around the pins diameter and would 'seat' when the rod was pushed on.. The rods used to like to cut through the nylon bushing and destroy the pin and/or groove from the rod running 'metal on metal' and would eventually fall off.. If thats the case, we used to fix them a few different ways,, replace the lever, install a round nylon bushing to make up the gap/wear to go back into the eye, then drill the pin and use a cotter pin to hold the assembly in place, or, if in a pinch cut/drill the pin out and weld in another fabricated pin.. Cost may be determined by how far they need to go to correct the problem, like just switch/clip, lever, ect...

Question clutch safety switch

Can anyone pleased tell me how to bypass the clutch safety switch on a 1997 ford f350 .
I have tried to put a new one in, and no luck. I have ben driving a stick for a long time
no wrecks. safety switchs are for people who don't know about sticks.

I have to tell you this !
I had a fellow mechanic who maintained a fleet of "C" model gas tractors. He was a good mechanic who knew his stuff. He opened the door to just tap the ign switch to get the dist on a high point of the cam and the truck was in gear and moved ahead and pinned him between the door of the truck and the truck cab. He died there until we found him the next morning. Accidents like this happen all the time and that is why we will not suggest disabling any safety device. The one time you or someone just taps that key at the wrong time the darn vehicle will start instantly, that's just how it is!
Please for your safety, and that of others NEVER bypass a safety device. Even the sharp folks slip and the price can be very costly.

I agree with you Hanky and Hayapower you never know when the thing is in gear. and bypassing that switch really is a bad idea it could get someone dead in a hurry. maybe not the driver but a family member not even temporarily accidents do happen my advice is get the thing fixed asap
