does door entry pad need replacing?
A couple of weeks ago, my F250 was stolen. They slim-jimmed the door and popped the key cylinder on the column and used a screwdriver to start it (nice job on making an expensive vehicle easy to steal and not installing and anti-theft device at the factory, Ford). The truck was found later that morning in a ditch. Hardly any body damage, but they did take all my personal stuff out of the cab. One of the things they took was the owners manual. In that manual was the card w/ the factory code for the keyless entry on the door. If they decide to come back to my house one night when i get the truck back, i figure they can still get in by using that code. They won't be able to start it due to the extreme security devices i'm putting on it, but they'll be able to get in and take my stuff again. It's my understanding that even if you set a new code, the factory code is always there and can't be changed. Does the pad need to replaced or is there a chip that contains the code in it? Can it be re-programmed by the dealer to a new factory code to where the old one won't work (erasing the original code)? Any help or info would be great.
FYI: It's been 2 weeks since it was stolen and i've been in a little Mazda rental car while my truck sits in the dealership bodyshop parking lot b/c the insurance paperwork is such a hassle. Once i get it back, i'm switching insurance companies that day. My advice, never, ever, ever, ever use American National Insurance (ANPAC) unless you want to be out of the loop on every thing and haveyour claims move along at a snails pace!
