Default F-600

My boss, a farmer, has a 1954 or '56 ford flatbed.I am pretty sure the model was F-600 or F-500,I don't really remember. But he offerd that ifI work for him all next summer W/O pay, he will give me that truck. It is in very nice condition! The floors are solid, the frame looks very good and he said it still runs. The only real problemI saw was the roof, it was crushed in in the middle like some panzy kid was jumping on it or something. Is there a way to get the roof back in place? The door frame was not damaged, and the windshield was not affected. This truck has a two speed rear end and a 10 speed transmission. I willl have more info to come on the truck.(such as differential numbers) and could somebody tell me how a two speed rear end works?I do not see many of them.

Just the roof panel, or the structural portion as well? A roof panel or just about any body panel can be brought back into shape with enough work.. If the roof was stressed/stretched enough it'll probably need to be heat shrunk to get the 'correct' shape so it doesn't 'oil can' or required sheets of bondo..

Do you have any pics of the truck?

I am going to be getting some pictures of it very soon, within the week I am hoping for. I am not sure as of to what you mean by roof panel...

Roof panel or cab roof skin.. Generally when someone jumps on, or uses thecabs roof as a work platform it usually only damages the outter panel (roof panel).. But if something of size and conciderable weight is dropped on the cab top, it can damage the stuctural portion of the cab as well.. Thin metal can be 'hammer/block' stretched, or 'pin point' heated and hammered into/towards the center point, then cooled from either side to bring the metal in/out changing contour or panel shape.. If the roof is severally concaved, it can be pushed back into position, but there will be area's where it'll bekinked and has stretched.. After its moved back into postion and has it's basic form, sometimes some hammer stretching/shrinking is needed to give it strenght.. The object is to get the contour correct so it's strong, and the 'least' amount of body filler..

The roof is not as bad as I remember. Turns out it has a 4 speed transmission with high/low range along with the two speed rearend (5.83/8.22) is what
I think they were from a crappy picture I took of the door plate. I asked him if it has OD but he said no, then I went out to check, and sure enough OD was above 4th.

if it has a two spd axle is an F600 would have 4 or 5 spd trans not 10
if you can get 10 spds that would be 5 spd split with 2 spd axle

Yeah, I slipped up a bit. it has a 4 speed with high/low range, and on the stick it also notes OD.


I was wondering how good of gas milage one of these trucks get? My dodge pickup is getting very bad milage, so I am looking into new things. The top speed would also be nice, the rear gears are 5.83/8.11. max horsepower is 149 @ 3600 RPM 154" WB. 4-syn. trans. 17,000 GVW, DSO=T-233. i have two other numbers off the plate if needed.

have somebody tried installing ford pickup cowl cover? i've been from threads but i wasn't been given specific answers especially on where can i have one? does ebay had this stuff? looking for inputs..
