Default F350 Diesel Question

Good day, all!

For the past several years, my father-in-law has owned a 2000 F350 Super Duty with the 7.3 and dual rear wheels. It was used regularly up until about 3-4 years ago when his health began to degrade and he became unable to drive. The truck was used here and there and then was parked and hasn't been moved and has been occasionally started and ran (with months in between) for the last 2 years.

Fast forward to about a couple of months ago, my father-in-law asked me if I wanted the truck as he wants it to go to someone who will take care of it. My wife wants to have it because it was her fathers and I kind of want it because it would be a decent work truck to have around as I've got some heavy duty projects coming up that a truck like this would be helpful with.

My main question is if there is anything I should look at or look for since this truck has been sitting for 2 years? As I said, it has maybe been started occasionally during those 2 years and has not been moved. I do know it will need new batteries as they're both drained, tires will need aired up and probably replaced sooner than later, my FIL says the fuel filter needs replaced, probably a fresh tank of diesel and a real good bath (it really looks like it has been sitting 2 years).

Any help or advise anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

One of the main considerations is as you are aware, the fuel and system.
Having been started and run for short periods, it would be a good move to change the oil and filter AND use the recommended oil type and grade.
I'm pretty sure it would have power steering, and the reservoir is down out of the way and you need to look for it, but make sure the level is correct. The belt and tensioner might be considered for replacement before either becomes a problem. You have enough with the few things suggested, go slow and don't forget the cooling system and brake fluid..
