Default failing turbo????

I have a 2002 f350 7.3turbo diesel and 6 speed manual tranny. The truck has a chip, air intake, and exuast system. I just bought a gooseneck trailer that weighs 9300lbs.While towing it home I had trouble maintaining 65mph up hills. I would have to downshift and could only go 55 to 60mph. At this timethe guage for the turbo would read 25psi but the engine would lose power. It reminded me of a clutch slipping, sounded and looked like i should have been going100mph, but i was losing speed quickly. The truck has 80,000 miles on it,I was told that turbos often fail around that mileage.I do not know the signs of a faulty turbo, would a failing turbo make the truck surge when trying to maintain 65mph on level or even downhill grades(like it was running out of fuel)it did not do it when i was acceloratoring heavily.I recently replaced the cam positioning sensor 3000 miles ago.I had the same surging problem then and it fixed it. can overrevving or anything else cause the cps to go bad?Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

you may want to check all the intercooler connections. They like to come loose once in a while.

i am not haveing a problem towing, but my turbo seems to be on the fritz, i took it in for all the re-calls and such. The problem i seem to be having is sometimes when i am driving and keeping the rpm at or around 1500 and go to speed up it looses all pressure, drops the rpms down to 500 and blows a huge cloud of black smoke, then the turbo finally kicks back in around 3000 rpm. It does this about once a week and the 2 dealers i have taken it to say nothing is wrong with it and it never does it with them around. ANY IDEAS?

Again, I would make sure all the intercooler conections are tightly sealed. These trucks are famous for the poor quality of these clamps. Usually when they are not sealed good, you can see a slight amount of oil comming out. If that turns out to be the problem, you may want to look into the upgraded boot kit from www.dieselsite.com There kit is a huge upgrade over the stock junk.
