Default Fuel pump not pumping

Hey, I just put a brand new fuel pump in an ‘01 F250 V10. When I turn the key on I hear it run for a second and stop, but no gas comes out. I dropped it back in the tank and even disconnected both gas lines And turned the key to verify it wasn’t a clogged line or filter and still no gas. When I crank the motor over I hear it running, but same results. Any idea what the problem might be?

You may need to drop the tank again and recheck your work. If the pump is sucking air instead of fuel it can ruin the new pump quickly. Sounds like one of the pieces of tubing came off..

Thanks for the reply hanky. I have the bed off so it’ll be easy to recheck the hoses. If I just snap the pump in the tank and plug in the wire connectors, should it pump when I turn the key? There’s about 6 gallons of gas in the tank. I’ve tried it completely hooked up with the external hoses going to the motor first and when that wasn’t working I popped the cap back off the gas tank and tried it with the external lines disconnected and pump still wouldn’t move gas?
no need to prime the pump, right?

When you turn the key on, the PCM provides the ground for the fuel pump relay to provide power to the fuel pump for 1-2 seconds only. If the PCM sees no RPM signal, engine cranking or running , it removes the ground that caused the relay to close . You can cycle the key a few times to get fuel up thru the filter and up to the engine.
If you still get no fuel and can hear the pump run for the 1-2 seconds each time. you slowly cycle the key, there is a problem with the pump hoses in the tank or you have a defective fuel pump.
