Default gas light question

Just bought an 04' F-250 and the gas light came on with about a 1/4 of a tank left. Just wondering about how many miles you can run until empty.

Every vehicle is different. Could be 3 gallons, 5 gallons, 7 gallons or more. My 88 Ranger used to read emply when it had 1/2 tank of fuel. Gauges are off from each other and the size of the tank comes into play. For your senario, you will need to put a gas can in your truck, then when the gas light comes on mark your mileage and runi it untill it dies. Then you'll know for sure. However, running a tank low or out leads to early fuel pump failure due to over heating. The fuel pump gets cooled by the fuel. Always running a low fuel level is a failure lookin g for the moth incoinvienent place and or time to occur. Why run it low? Two half tank fill-ups will cost the same as one empty tank fill-up.

calculate how many gal your tank holds and what your mpg is and figure it but i don't never run mine below a 1/4 tank when i get that low i switch tanks and when that one gets near that i start looking for fuel that way i have a reserve if needed and around home i keep my tanks full that way u get less condensation plus if fuel jumps in price I've saved a little and if there is an emergency i don't have to stop and fuel therefor losing time

Doesn't matter if it's a F-250, Ranger, Explorer, F-550, Bus, Dump Truck, Semi or anything else. It's all the same factors...Tank size, MPGand accuracy of the fuel gauge...
