allright as u no i am going to put a air pump / egr pump/ smog pump in my truck because i have a really loud and annoying squeeking sound. i ruled everything off except the water pump and the air pump. so tonight as i was going to put the new air pump in my father decided to spray a dash of wd40 on the belt and the squeeking stopped. then it came back and so he decided to spray the belt again and the squeeking stopped. what could be the freaking annoying problem.

Try Armoral cleaner on the belt. It lasts longer than the wd. The belt dressing stuff never worked for me.

The smog air pump has multiple 'carbon blades' inside that contact the inside of the air pump case, and can make some slight noise.. 'Especially' if listened to through a stethoscope.. When replacing a smog pump, usually it's noted on the reman. that you may even hear some noise during break in.. If your using a belt dressing ect, and the noise disappears ‘then’ returns after it dissipates, than its not the air pump or water pump.. If unbelted, a rotated air pump ‘may’ have some drag/squeak, but shouldn't be really ‘identifiably’ heard while running at speed..

Are all the idlers/tensioner new? Plastic or steels?

Also, with the engine off, pull the top of belt ‘upwards’ by hand to fully retract the tensioner arm then ‘back and forth’ rapidly.. Any squeak then?

the tensioner pulley is plastic and the idler pulley is metal. and like all the shops said ive cleaned every pulley to make sure theirs no debris on it o make it squeek.

A trick to determine if the noise is your belt is to spray the belt with water. If the squeeking stops it is the belt. Any other petroleum type solvent sprays may deteriorate the belt and/or cause slippage. Most of the store bought belt dressings wont fix the dry belt squeel. The only thing i have seen work for any length of time is a NAPA belt dressing my boss referred to as Tiger ___something. It was a tar type of liquid and would get goo on your fenders if you put it on while running. Best way to fix is a quality name brand belt. Sorry.javascript:void(AddText(''))
javascript:void(AddText(''))
