The early 7.3's have a 'lift pump' mounted in the valley of the block....

.
The fuel pump is in the valley of the block, behind the fuel bowl that your filter is in. To remove the pump themanual says to remove the turbo but, all you need is a 1 1/8" socket and wrench to remove the banjo bolt. It takes some patience and nimble fingers but, it is well worth not having to remove the turbo. Loosen the banjo with the socket by getting to the bolt from behind the fuel pump and under the turbo. Also be carefullnot to bendthe metal banjo gaskets when reinstalling the banjo bolt. Place a piece of paper towel under the banjo to keep the gaskets from falling down.
