Ford F-250 & Ford F-350 The heavier duty full sized trucks from Ford, offering bigger, more powerful engines and drivetrains for the abuse they may go through in the workplace.

Looking for some 94 F250 gasser advise.

Default Looking for some 94 F250 gasser advise.

I am looking a 94 F250 reg. cab, flatbed w/fifth wheel. It has a C 6 transmission and 300 straight 6cylinder engine. I don't know what I would be doing with it in regards to pulling but it would be my only vehicle and would be used for transportation and hauling stuff in the bed. It has got 190k miles on it which is quite a bit and the thing I'd be worried about is the tranny. How far do those trannys go? and is there and easy fix if it does go?

Anything about this truck I should know about? weaknesses, strengths, parts prone to failing, is the engine good. If you'all could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Tucker

I had a '94 5.8 L,F250 with the E4OD..it was a hell of a truck. The C6 is damned near bulletproof...coupled to the 300 six,it could probably go another 110K mi,depending on how well it was maintained.I'd be looking for leaks, rusted lines, etc. The trannyy fluid should appear red,and not smell burnt. The shifts should be even, regular and smooth. It should engage quickly on startup.I also have a '91 E350 with the C6...it has about 175K mi on it...no problems, transmission or otherwise.

Do you think the 6 cylinder will give you enough pulling power for what you intent to pull with it? The trans even with minimum attention should take whatever the 6 cylinder can put to it.

Thanks for the replies guys. That makes me feel a bit more confident. I'll check out the tranny fluid and I hope I can test drive it before buying. I'm not sure if it's on the road. He just gave me a call today and said he's negotiable on the price. It's been for sale a while. I am also looking at a F250 4x4 diesel IDI and a 1rst gen. dodge cummins 4x4, so this truck is not my first pick but it is pricewise. I love the flatbed on it. We'll see, haven't heard back from the other fella's yet.

I'm not sure what I would be pulling with it. As of now I don't have any trailer but would like to get a dump trailer for moving compost around and I'm also into garden tractors so maybe a trailer for moving them. Nothing to big though.

For that sort of light towing it,would barely get warmed up.I had a '69 F100,that I dropped a 300 six into...what it would'nt pull,I did'nt need.Your's will be fine.

I agree with Gary. You'll have plenty of power to pull that small stuff with power to spare.

Thanks guy's. I appreciated the responses. The truck sold before I got to it and it wasn't exactly what I was looking for, so I am not too disappointed. Little to rusty for my liking as well. Will have to keep looking but at least I am a little wiser on the 4.9L engines and C6 trannies.
Thanks
