My fuel heater fuse keeps blowing! Why?
Hey,
Just recently, when I crank my '96 F250 Powerstroke 7.3L, the 30amp fuse that works the fuel heater (also operates "wait to start" light) keeps blowing. I know this same fuse operates some other things but don't have my manual with me. When it blow, I lose all fire to the motor. The first time this happened, I was only 100 feet down the drive. I noticed the "wait to start" light was not coming on and when I looked at the fuse, it was blown. I replaced the fuse, cranked the truck and pulled it back into the drive. When I tried to crank it later, the truck fired off for a few seconds, then died. Again, the "wait to start" light would not operate. Fuse had blown again. Replaced it again and it blew while trying to crank the truck. I know I most likely have a ground short, but can anyone give me an idea on where to begin looking? I'll update this tomorrow after reading my manual and listing the other components this fuse is linked to. Any help sure would be appreciated. Thanks everyone. Brad

Well, if I would have used the "search" function, I could have saved myself some time. It appears that this same issue is generally caused by a short related to the fuel heater and if the heater is unplugged, problem solved. I'm in south MS and don't really need the heater. I'll try that first and report back just for anyone else that may have a similar issue. This is a great forum!
