Default new owner w/ questions

Howdy from the Houston, TEXAS area! I'm about to purchase my first F250. It's an 06 6.0l Lariat crew cab sb auto 4x4 w/ the FX4 package, tow command & aux switches, and 14K miles on it. It's all stock except the 18" wheels & Mickey Thompson tires on it. I think it's got a leveling kit. Coming w/ a bull bar, which is gonna be taken off and sold on ebay or something (from previous experience, full replacement bumpers are the only way to go). The truck's in perfect condition. It will be a daily driver (60 miles round trip to & from work w/ a 60/40 split on hwy/city),hardly doany towing, and will see some off-road during deer season. I'm buying the truck for the longevity & reliability of a diesel and the upgrades are better than a gasser. Eventually I'll be getting a 5th wheel camper to tow, but that's several years down the road. I believe it's got 3.73 gear. The questions i have are:

1. What problems have you or any one you know had w/ this truck/engine?
2. What intake/exhaust options/combos or any thing else do you know of to get the most mpg out of it?
3. What about programmers for this? I like Hypertech Max Energy but am completely open to other suggestions. Can these be easily detected by the dealer since it's stillunder warranty?
4. What fluids do you recommend me using (oil, atf, diff, etc...) and at what intervals should I change them?
5. What do you think of biodiesel, B20, or any of the other alternative fuels that can be used in this truck?
6. What additives do you recommend using for better mpg, power, or general health of the engine/fuel system? What intervals should these be used?

Thanks in advance for your time, help, and consideration. Please tell me all the advise or experience you have w/ this truck/engine. I'm a newbie and am eager to soak-up info like a sponge! PM messages welcome.

Default RE: new owner w/ questions

First thing I'd probably do is have your dealer run an Oasis Report on it for warranty work/repairs done, if any.. Sometimes it can give a brief history (especially traded off at 14K?) of the service life this far.. More so if it's had a lift, tires, and possibly a HP tune run as many do..

Your going to get (i'm sure) a lot of input, good 'and' bad, about a 6.0 purchase.. My personal 05/6.0 has been "flawless" @53K running a Diablo Predator.. However,, they have been a somewhat troubled and problematic build within their history.. Some with zero problems like mine.. Oil leaks seeming to be the worst,, turbo's, EGR, headgaskets on occasion, and certainly more often running the high HP tunes..Something to concider if your planning on a HP tune or building extreme power.. As well as other issues, but as with all the other high tech diesels can be expected..What you can do is read as much info as possible and make an informed decision, and may give you a better eye when shopping for a 6.0 or may help with any documentation that 'should' be with the truck.. Talk to other owners you see on the road for a 'real life' consumer test of sorts.. Forums tend to be a bit bias since alot of owners come and post because they need help with a problem..

Look the truck over well,,, top to bottom for any oil issues like Bed plate, Rear Main ect... Generally seen as 'hanging' drips from the bellhousing area.. Back that up with the Oasis.. Might also look to see if its had gauges installed prior as well, to give an indication as to how it was used..

Ford DOES NOT what to saee anything more that B5 run through the 6.0..

If any failure can be pinned to a programmer, fuel recommendation, ect. Ford can/will decline the warranty repair.. Not void the warranty, but can refuse the cost of repair...

Sounds like a NICE truck BTW Love mine
