Please Help w/Ford 350
HI my name is Skarrlette, I am new here. I have a 2002 ford 350 super duty 7.3 diesal truck.
When I bought the truck the previous owner had been a snow plower and the gearshift seemed to be loose. I ignored it. When I put it into park it would roll then I would have to be more forceful like putting it in park when it was rolling forward to make sure it would go into park.
This has gone on for over a year. The other day when I pulled into a parking lot to put the truck in park it would not go and I soon realized it was broken the gearshift. It had to be towed in reverse and was towed from the back wheels with the front wheels on the pavement.
Then I went and bought the gearshift and the two other parts one was a bushnel or something. The part guys recommended i do it that is the normal procedure. They said it happens all the time.
Then I had it put in thinking this will work!!! Well it will not move the the gears. What happened!! What could it be!
Please advise need my truck

Welcome to the site..
A few things can happen with the shifters on the SD's to cause a variety of shift/selection problems..
If the shifter was excessivley 'sloppy' and you always had to shift or 'position hunt' in all gears it can be the 2 torx screws at the base of the main column section where the shift arm attaches to the shifter tube that come loose and should be checked.. The shifter tube itself that runs from the trans selector lever on down to the shifter lever can crack/break and cause the shifter to be loose or not function well..
Also,, the 'shift interlock' solenoid needs to pull back the safety lock device when the brakes are applied to be able to pull out of Park.. Check to make sure the brake lamps are functioning as first step..
When you pull the trans lever 'back' to attempt the gear change, do you feel the normal spring tension? and it just won't pull out of P? If the stop lamps don't work ,check the fuse..
