Default Programmers worth it?

I just stepped up to an '02 f-250SD Super Crew 4X4 5.4L. I've installed a K&N and Flowmasters. Real Happy w/the truck other than the mileage.Hypertech has 2 types of tuners 1-max energy 2-power programmer III, Max energy is the best, but do I need anything more than the power programmer? Tow rarely, don't need over the top power, but if I could get 20%-30% better mileage that would be HUGE. What I read is that you buy these programmers for $200-$400 use them for 30 min to re-set everything and your done. Does this re-programming of the engine hurt the truck over the short or long term? Should I give one of these Hypertech products a whirl or just be happy w/what I have now? Thanks.

Default RE: Programmers worth it?

Skip the canned tunes from Hypertech and get a BamaChips programmer from Doug Studdard. You can get 3 tunes to your liking such as a torque tune for towing or a Race tune for all out hp or and economy tune to get the most mileage from your truck. 20-30 percent gains in fuel mileage will never happen from any tuner or any other product on the market for that matter. With the Bamachips tuner you will also be able to adjust speed limiter, rev limiter, calibrate speedo for tire size changes or gear changes along with several other user adjustable options. Doug is a genious at Ford tunes and one heck of a nice guy to boot and stands behind his products 100% and his customer service is second to none.
